وزارت دادگستری ایالات متحده آمریکا دو هکر ایرانی را متهم به دست داشتن در یک پویش نشر اطلاعات غلط کرده است که این پویش رای‌دهندگان انتخابات سال ۲۰۲۰ را هدف گرفته بوده است.
گفته می‌شود اکتبر سال گذشته، سید کاظمی و سجاد کاشیان ایمیل‌های تهدیدآمیزی برای کسانی که به حزب دموکرات رای داده بودند و ساکن ایالت فلوریدا بوده‌اند، فرستاده و این افراد را تهدید کرده بودند که در صورتی که به رییس جهور سابق؛ دونالد ترامپ، رای ندهند، به آنها آسیب جسمانی خواهند رساند. مدیر کل اطلاعات ملی به محض وقوع این حادثه یک کنفرانس مطبوعاتی برگزار کرد که طی آن به رای دهندگان درباره این ایمیل‌ها هشدار داده شد.
علاوه بر این مورد، گفته می‌شود کاظمی و کاشیان اقدام به ورود غیرمجاز به بیش از ۱۱ مرکز رای‌گیری و وبسایت‌های اطلاعاتی کرده‌اند.
به عنوان مثال یکی از این موارد این است که وزارت دادگستری ایالات متحده ادعا می‌کند آنها با موفقیت اطلاعات شخصی بیش از ۱۰۰۰۰۰ رای دهنده را دانلود کرده بودند. همچنین گفته می‌شود که این دو فرد یک پویش حاوی اطلاعات نادرست را در فیسبوک سازماندهی می‌کرده‌اند. این دو فرد همچنین ادعا کرده‌اند که از اعضای داوطلبانه‌ی سازمان نئو فاشیستی Proud Boys هستند و گفته‌اند که مدارکی در دست دارند که نشان می‌دهد حزب دموکرات قصد دارد از نقطه ضعف‌های امنیتی در سیستم‌های انتخاباتی استفاده کند تا رای‌های داخل صندوق‌ها را تغییر بدهند.

اوج تلاش‌های کاظمی و کاشیان برای تغییر جهت انتخابات به ۴ نوامبر برمی‌گردد که این دو سعی کردند شبکه یک شرکت رسانه‌ای آمریکایی را هک کنند. اما به علت اینکه اف بی آی زودتر به شرکت مورد نظر اطلاع داده بود، این دو به موفقیتی دست نیافتند.
وکیل دادگستری، ژنرال متیو جی.اولسن در یک بیانیه می گوید:
این ادعا نامه به تفصیل راجع به چگونگی حمله دو فرد ایرانی و برپا کردن پویشی برای کاشتن بذر اختلاف بین آمریکایی‌ها می‌پردازد. این اتهامات نشان می‌دهد که چگونه پویش های خارجی ترویج دهنده اطلاعت غلط، به دنبال تاثیر گذاری بر جامعه آمریکایی است.
مقامات آمریکایی که واشنگتن پست گفته‌اند که آنها باور دارند این هکرهای ایرانی هم اکنون در ایران هستند و بعید میدانند بتوان به این زودی ها به آنها دست یافت. وزارت دادگستری نیز آنها را به دولت ایران مرتبط ندانست.
